APPLIED TECHNOLOGY
Universal Laser Cutter The Woodshop classroom will receive an additional laser cutter for use in wood craft, guitar-making, and various art classes. This programmable engraver is highly flexible and adaptable to a wide range of student projects, allowing students to unleash their creativity and problem-solving skills. BUSINESS EDUCATION
Business Incubator - MVP This annual grant provides funding for each Business Incubator group to create a Minimum Viable Product in order to determine viability of their business idea and gain knowledge regarding possible alterations necessary to develop their product or service. Virtual Reality Headsets This grant funds a class-set of 24 VR headsets along with 3 iPads, allowing students to interact with virtual content related to a variety of curricular areas. Imagine taking a field trip to Antarctica, visiting the Colosseum in Rome, or exploring the inside of a human cell. Students can even use the headsets to do VR-based college visits. ENGLISH
The Forest Scout Website Conversion The Forest Scout student newspaper will create a new webpage through Student News Online, and this grant will cover the migration, set-up, hosting, and support of the conversion. Journalism students will use this new service to continue to provide quality information to the student body and community. This grant provided in partnership with LFHS Boosters. LIBRARY
Color Printer The LFHS Library will receive a new color printer to assist students in printing maps, charts, and graphs for school assignments requiring color. Used daily by students, this new printer will provide faster, higher-quality printing than the current 10-year-old printer. MUSIC
Concert Piano The Music department has been fundraising to purchase to a new Fazioli F212 Concert Grand Piano as their top performance piano. This grant is in partnership with Applause and the “Buy a Key” program to provide the final 20% of the cost of the new concert piano. This piano will be used daily for Choir and to accompany Honors Music students, in addition to supporting 8-12 concerts, 13 student recitals, and the Spring Musical each year. SCIENCE
Flexible Science Lab Furniture Building on the tremendous success of last year’s grant, the Science department will gain 3 additional classrooms with mobile, multi-functional lab tables and chairs. The movable furniture design provides teachers the flexibility to instantly change the entire classroom configuration, from lecture to lab to small group learning. These interlocking lab tables, certified to withstand the extreme elements found in science classrooms, allow the department to move from teacher-centered to more collaborative, student-centered learning. |

Physics Air Tracks This grant funds an additional set of air tracks and air supplies for the Physics Conservation of Momentum lab. The Physics teachers have worked together to ensure that all students have the opportunity to do an inquiry-based lab for momentum, and this additional set will provide enough materials for all classes. Physics Projectile Launchers These projectile launchers will allow the AP Physics classes to revise their units on projectile motion to include more inquiry-based lab work. Students will design an experiment to enable them to hit a target from an angled projectile launch. Plus, the versatile nature of the equipment will allow it to be incorporated into any of the physics courses. View a very short video clip of this grant in action below. SOCIAL STUDIES
Albert Online Exam Prep Software Albert is a web-based interactive database of multiple-choice questions for AP classes. It allows teachers to create question sets based on individual student needs – showing student progress and giving real-time feedback. Based on positive student and teacher feedback from this year, this grant continues to fund the program for AP Psychology, AP World History, and AP Government & Politics, while expanding to include AP US History and World Civ Honors. RMA Audio-Visual Update The Raymond Moore Auditorium will receive a new 4K capable projector built for large venue presentations, along with 8 new microphone packs for professional grade sound reinforcement. Used by countless groups, the new equipment will enrich the quality of the many student performances that take place each year. PALS is also making a contribution toward the funding of this grant. WORLD LANGUAGE
ACTFL Conference This grant covers the registration for 5 world language teachers to attend the National ACTFL Conference in November 2019. World Language teachers have re-written the existing courses to align with ACTFL national standards and assessment. This conference is the premier world language conference and will assist teachers in improving their teaching and connecting their classrooms to authentic learning. Gimkit Subscription This grant will allow the entire World Language department to track student practice on vocabulary, grammatical structures, and more with this game-based learning tool. Developed by a high school student for high school students, Gimkit gives students positive reinforcement for completing the critical practice they need. Spanish Library This grant provides funds to purchase more Young Adult titles to support the literacy of students in the Spanish for Native Speakers course. This support will allow students more choice in their reading materials and will aid in their ability to succeed and assimilate. The library can also be used for upper-level Spanish courses. |
