Student Commons Sound System

Music and voices are now clear, crisp and audible in a variety of spaces in the high school due to a new state of the art, portable sound system.  Users and guests marvel at the incredible sound quality and how intuitive and easy the system is to use.

The sound system is already being used two to three times a week.  Its portability allows the flexibility to be used in the Student Commons, Cafeteria, Library and Gym.  During Teen Read Week, the system is used in the library for student improvisations. Other events that benefit from the new system include the Earth Week Poetry Slam, special school events, 8th grade orientation and numerous sports banquets which are held over the course of the year.

The new custom-designed system has an array sound system that can produce an even distribution of sound in a 130 degree arc from two, vertical speaker poles.  The system components are housed in a portable podium and may be linked to a computer, DVD or projector providing a visual complement to the audio experience.  The system also includes a handheld portable microphone, a podium mike and a wireless mike.

“The new sound system has gone way beyond our expectations,” said Principal Jay Hoffmann.  “It has already enhanced and supported so many groups before, during and after school.  Thank you to the Foundation for supporting this grant and allowing our vision of the new Student Commons become a reality.”
