Area Studies Cultural Speakers Series
The Lake Forest High School Foundation awarded a grant to the Social Studies Department to fund one speaker each semester in each of the African Studies, Asian Studies, Latin American Studies and Middle East Studies courses. These area studies courses focus on various cultural topics of their respective global regions. The personal experience of hosting a classroom speaker provides our students with better awareness of issues relating to religion, diversity and gender throughout our world today.
In early December, the LFHS Social Studies Department hosted a speaker from Ghana, Mr. Eric Peasah, to talk with over four hundred students - from a variety of social studies classes - about his experience with child trafficking.
| “We want to bring in more people from various cultural backgrounds and experiences to open the eyes of our students about other cultures, so they may understand and respect these cultures,” said Dr. Jim Gantt, Instructional Director of the Social Studies Department. “We are grateful to Foundation for its support of this grant.” |
